Future of AI depends on us
Future of AI

What is in the future? is actually everyone favorite question, “What I will be when I’m grown up?”, “Does Time Machine available?”, “Is cure of cancer found?” or “Do we finally step foot on mars?”. There is too many question to be answered, that is why both leaders (Gandhi and Lincoln) said that the futures is depends on us. It is us who will be shaping what Artificial Intelligence for our future generations, is it will be an era of Decepticon or Autobots? Evil or bad? is the question we need to answered. In this article, I will explain about my perspective on the future of A.I and its significant towards the society.

“The future depends on what you do” -Mahatma Gandhi

“The best way to predict your future is to create it”-Abraham Lincoln

Artificial Intelligence is discovered in 1955 but it only widely use in the 21st century. The demand of AI products is becoming trendy as the term ‘automation’ is making people lives easier. Artificial intelligence has made significant contributions to human society’s development and has altered the conventional methods of production and ways of thinking in human society.

From providing translation, image recognition until diagnosing diseases, this intelligent system are improving our lives. However, despite the fact Artificial Intelligent is assisting our lives, it is full of loopholes that have potential to cause a snowball effects. The existing policy system is not sufficient and there is no supervising system in place. Ultimately, this technology brings threats to the society such as leakage of personal privacy, unsupervised AI bots, abuse on war events and destroying people jobs. If there is no such ethical principles that is compulsory to follow, AI technology will reach its downfall in society.

The evidence is already existed and maybe when you are reading this, someone is manipulating your data for their selfish interest. The case of breaching the user data like in Cambridge Analytica where the company admitted that they break the British data law. In the movie of “The Great Hack” it portrays on how Cambridge Analytica played an important roles in campaigning for the Republican party of USA in 2016.

It uses the user data to set a demographic of users and understanding their characteristics and eventually put them into a clusters. This cluster is given different tactics and strategies to won their vote for the presidential elections. Therefore, they have the capability to play god and changing the voters mindset as they already know what the voters of a particular cluster want to see based on their data. Facebook also a part to be blame where 87 Millions Facebook data are leak because of their API faulty. Mark Zuckerberg responds and say;

“I’ve been working to understand exactly what happened and how to make sure this doesn’t happen again. The good news is that the most important actions to prevent this from happening again today we have already taken years ago. But we also made mistakes, there’s more to do, and we need to step up and do it.”-Facebook

The underlining of this issue is how a big company like Facebook is allowing particular unethical parties to gathered data for their illegal profit. And this happen under our nose but no one have clue on this case until a whistleblower come out. This is just Facebook we are discussing, how about the small medium technology enterprise working on AI projects? are they doing their task in ethical manner? Until we have the global scale law to be uphold for AI usage, then maybe we can start imagine to have bright future with AI.

Unfortunately, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also use for war and making arsenals more powerful. AI is suppose to be created to help the society, not to hurt them. However, there still parties that support and develop autonomous weapons. The concept of is cold, autonomous weapon can select and engage targets — without human interventions. The autonomous weapon can be use in war drones, or any form solely to kill and destroy. With this AI war tech, AI will become a ticking bomb for society. Now, just imagine if it falls into the hand of black-market or terrorist. Thus, autonomous weapon need to completely banned on this face of earth because it can induce more harmful than good. It is clear that the future of AI, really depends on how we design it, ethical or unethical? ethical is the answer for a better world.

Nevertheless, it cannot be argue that Artificial Intelligence is bringing contributions to the society. AI even help in the research of COVID-19 on predicting the spreads and helping in finding the vaccines. Smart cities is also build to make better life for the society to live in. People now do not have to drive with Tesla autonomous car and have less effort to drive anywhere. We can now depend on technology to do our daily task. Artificial Intelligence also is primary drive motivation of todays IR4.0 that focuses on automate people activity and improve more productivity by using AI. Personally speaking, I think people of today love the concept of AI, due to its ability to help us. We need to bring this element of ‘love’ in developing AI, and in order to be secured, law and order, and ethical principles need to take place.

In the future, AI can only be good if the new technologies that using AI is guided and regulated. It is important for the government agencies to take the lead in the production of intelligence, do good work with AI technology, evaluate product ethics, and make moral presumptions of artificial intelligence from the technical level. With this, we can live together with more advance AI in our society. Maybe everyone can have their own Jarvis!
